Our church has weekly gatherings in addition to Sunday service, and one in particular that we love is Men’s Night and Women’s Group. The men gather in one room, share a great meal, have a little Bible study, and end in prayer. As I, Brock, am writing this post; I cannot speak to what happens behind closed doors of the women’s room. I imagine it is a similar experience. This week was the topic of prayer and I felt the need to share because prayer is overlooked by many.
Prayer is referenced over 600 times in the Bible! It is obvious that God wants us to make it a large part of our daily life. In the Book of Matthew, we are instructed to not babble in prayer, to pray in private, pray for those who persecute us, and we are given the Lord’s Prayer. Paul tells us in Romans to be faithful in prayer. In Thessalonians, he tells us to pray without ceasing. James tell us what to expect when we pray and to check our prayer motives. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. God is the most loving father, who, unlike many earthly fathers, will never turn his back on us. He wants us to have a relationship with him and to talk to him as much as we can.
“Never stop praying.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17
This will be a short post and is meant to serve as a reminder that we need to pray every day, multiple times a day. Prayer is personal, prayer is intimate, and most importantly, prayer is powerful. Being a Christian means being Christ-like. Jesus is our example, and he shows us how to pray several times in the Gospel. That is a good enough reason for us to pray every day, all day.
